Vicento Amigo Biography

Famous guitarist Vicente Amigo, who was born in Guadalcanal, Seville in 1967, lives in Cordoba. He began studying guitar at the age of eight from masters such as El Merengue (Rafael Rodríguez Fernández) and El Tomate (Juan Muñoz Expósito), and at the age of 15 he became apprentice to the great artist Manolo Sanlúcar, with whom he would later work for several years in his group. He appeared in Sanlúcar’s masterpiece Tauromagia (1988), considered one of the most important flamenco albums of all time.

He broke off ties with the artist to concentrate on concerts and create his own style among his peers; in a few years he toured all over the world and gained a reputation by performing at very important festivals. Beginning his guitar career with El Pele, Amigo released his first solo album, “De Mi Corazon Al Aire”, in 1991 after breaking up with El Pele. He has won major flamenco guitar awards such as La Unión (1988), Extremadura (1988) and Cordoba (1989).

He has recently achieved international fame as Camarón de la Isla, the most important singer in modern flamenco history; he has also gained international fame for his work with artists such as John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola, Brazilian singer-songwriter Milton Nascimento and Spanish pop superstar Alejandro Sanz.

He had a lifelong friendship with Paco De Lucia, who he adored and passed away in February 2014.

“I played guitar because when I was three I saw Paco de Lucia on TV and he stayed with me. Later we became friends and shared many great times. Among all flamenco guitarists, Paco is the greatest. He paved the way. Flamenco has done a lot for the guitar, all of us We owe him.”

He has an intriguing guitar technique. Thanks to his slender fingers, his guitar grip has been perfected and turned into a terrifying speed. While playing the guitar, it feels as if you are chasing the notes. It is among the ones that show serious promise among new era guitarists.
