Can You Start Guitar With Electric Guitar? Should I Play Nylon Guitar?

Can You Start Guitar With Electric Guitar? Should I Definitely Play Classical Music? They say you can switch to classical first and then electric guitar, what is the truth of it?

Can You Start Learning Guitar With Electric Guitar?

It is one of the questions asked by everyone who wants to learn the guitar. Unfortunately, there is no definite answer to this question, it varies from person to person and your ability. I hope I can tell you a little about my experience so far and give you an idea.

In my opinion, you can start learning guitar with electric guitar. But for most people, this has some disadvantages. I wrote the first thing that came to my mind below.

Disadvantages

  • Most students want to play the electric guitar without knowing what it is. The electric guitar looks very cool from the outside, especially for younger students.
  • Most students who want to start with the electric guitar are not even aware of Blues, Rock, Metal and similar music genres. However, the electric guitar is mostly used in these types of music.
  • When you start with the electric guitar, some basic guitar works stay in the background. Chords in particular can be a problem. Most students have the following attitude: “We play electric guitar, what do we have to do with them?”
  • You need an amp to play the electric guitar, again most students are not aware of this. The disadvantage here is not the need for an amp, but the sound coming out of the amp. Often this creates a problem for families. You may think that I play at a low volume, but this means that some dynamics are lost.
  • The electric guitar is a difficult instrument to control, especially if you want to play in hard tones, you need to master the guitar. It’s a challenging situation for beginners.

  • So, are there any advantages?

It is easy to hold as it has a thin body structure. It might be a little heavy at first, but it’s a habit.
It is easy to grasp the handle as it has a narrow and thin handle structure.
Since the strings are thin and close to the neck, you don’t need to apply a lot of force to get a smooth sound that is easy to press.

Start with classical guitar first and then move on to electric!

It’s a completely misunderstood situation. First of all, let’s clarify the subject of classical guitar. When we think of a classical guitar, two things come to mind. The guitar itself and a genre of music. This type of guitar is called classical guitar because classical type or similar polyphonic music is played on the classical guitar. However, another name for this guitar is the nylon string guitar. Don’t forget to read the articles below to get an idea.

If there are those who say that you should learn the classical guitar, which is a type of music, before playing the electric guitar, let me tell you that they are wrong. As for the guitar type, I will talk about this subject separately in the recommendations section.

    Advices

  • First of all, if you have a good ear for music, have a talent for playing an instrument, in short, if you have musical talent, start with the guitar you want. Here all you have to choose is which type of music you want to play.
  • If you don’t know what to do or if you want to play the electric guitar but are a little indecisive, I would say start with a nylon string guitar. Nylon string guitars are very easy to reach. Learn to play melody, learn to play chords, have basic guitar knowledge, practice your ear a little. Maybe you won’t even want to play the electric guitar, playing chords and singing will be enough for you.
  • I will definitely play the electric guitar in the future, but now the amp, the cable, the neighbour 🙂 etc. If you say you can’t deal with it, you can start with a steel-string guitar (acoustic guitar).
  • It doesn’t matter if you started with an electric guitar or you already play it, you should definitely have an acoustic-sounding guitar handy. Maybe at that moment you just want to play 3-4 chords and sing, you don’t need to deal with an electric guitar just for this, you can pick up your classical or acoustic guitar and play it.
  • You don’t need to learn classical music to play the electric guitar. If you want to learn classical music, of course, learn it, but they are two very different disciplines. What we mean when we say start with the classical guitar should be the type of guitar, not the type of music.
  • It doesn’t matter whether you start with an electric guitar or a classical guitar, you must have basic guitar knowledge. You should definitely learn to play the melody, play chords. You must be aware of major and minor scales.
  • Let me finish the article by giving an example from myself. My first guitar was an acoustic guitar, I was playing with a pick. Then I got a classical guitar. I repaired a classical guitar I found in the trash. I learned to play the guitar with this guitar. Then I met the electric guitar. I mostly played classical guitar for a certain period, the soft tone of classical guitar was more appealing.
